Spring is springing here in DC. It has been in the low 60’s all week and now it is raining. I have been really loving it. My Lenten bock experiment has been going really well. I have been enjoying getting to know bocks and dopplebocks a lot more. What originally put me off, namely the booziness without big yeasty esters or a palette cleansing hoppiness, I have now come to appreciate as a way to understand how different malts work. I really love how juicy a good dopplebock can be. On the otherhand, I had gone through most of my bocks and had to settle for a Michelob Amber Bock. It was quite possibly the low point of the month. There was just nothing there for me. It was very disappointing.

I can’t wait to crack open my Avery IPA tonight> I have yet to be disappointed by them and I hope it doesn’t change tonight!

What are your thoughts on the pairing of “a bump and a brew?” one of my favorite hole-in-the-wall bars that recently closed had a few featured pairings, a shot of Jagermeister followed by a pint of Maritime Pacific’s Night Watch dark amber ale always hit the spot!

Here in DC, there are some bars that offer “Combos” it is usually a shot of Jameson or Maker’s Mark with a can of Schlitz or PBR. It is not the most sophisticated of drinks. But it is cheap and it gets the job done.
